Passions Collide – Abstract 5

This abstract photography based digital artwork, combines two of my artistic passions - 3D animation and photography. The base color scheme is from a photograph of an old worn out table that had several coats of mismatched paint on it in addition to several glued-on pieces of newsprint and other paper. The color information from that image was used to drive the size, color, and 3D spatial location of each rectangular object. The resulting 3D rendered image was then finished in Photoshop with many color tweaks, contrast adjustments and some other "magical" things. The image is best viewed on a large desktop monitor and is intended to be printed very large. Copyright 2017 Scott Norris Photography scottnorrisphotography.com

Lines on Paper

Lines on Paper

While trying (and failing) to create some sort of folded/creased sculptures, I happily discovered this composition of crossing lines on one of the discarded pieces of paper. Forgetting my feeble attempts at sculpture, I snapped a few shots of my “creation”.  And I have to say,  I really like this. It has a kind of minimalist,…… Continue reading Lines on Paper

A Penultimate Challenge

Water Glass and Tissue Square

For my penultimate 365 image, I asked friends on Facebook to help me with a few ideas for today.  There were many great suggestions, but one in particular was perfect (thanks Erin!).   Part of what I do with my photography is try to capture the everyday things of life and present them in an extraordinary…… Continue reading A Penultimate Challenge

Peeling Back the Layers

Peeling Back the Layers

“I wondered to what extent people remained the same as they’d been when very young; if one peeled back the layers of living one would come to know the child.” –Dick Francis With my son as my guide, I’m working toward peeling back the strata of my own life to reveal the wide-eyed exploring curious child I…… Continue reading Peeling Back the Layers

Infinity

Infinity

“This is the truth: as from a fire aflame thousands of sparks come forth, even so from the Creator an infinity of beings have life and to him return again.” –Marcus Tullius Cicero A simple raised line on a piece of white card stock represents the horizon and the infinite beyond. Day 269 of my 365…… Continue reading Infinity

The Notebook: Day 229

The Notebook: Day 229

For my photo a day project, I will jot ideas and thoughts for future shoots into this spiral notebook.  It’s a way for me to remember cool ideas when I’m actually out with my camera trying to capture something.  And it also doubles as my long-term memory – it does a better job than my…… Continue reading The Notebook: Day 229

10 Years Today

10 Years Today

10 years ago today, I married the love of my life.  She is beautiful, crazy, loving, strong-willed, creative, quirky, kind-hearted, and smart.   In that time, we were married, bought a condo, traveled abroad and camped locally, made great friends, lost loved ones, moved, started a dream business.  We had a son!!  The most beautiful little…… Continue reading 10 Years Today

Paper Spiral

Paper Spiral

This shot of a small spiral piece of paper was inspired, in part, by an incident in our home this morning.  I’ll get to that in a moment.  For the image, I wanted to create something white on white with only light and the corresponding shadows along with texture defining the subject.  Shot macro with my…… Continue reading Paper Spiral

Blue White Blue

Blue White Blue

“A trilogy is a pretty abstract notion. You can apply it to almost any three things.” –Jonathan Demme This trilogy of alternating sheets of blue and white sheets of paper is a continuation of yesterday’s image.  And again,  I was playing with shape, form and line – foundations of composition – to create a simple and minimal image.…… Continue reading Blue White Blue

Minimalist Kick: Cyanotype on White

Sky Blue on White

I’ve been on a real minimalist kick in my art as of late.  You can certainly see that in my recent photographs in the 365 Project.  And lately, I’m actually finding it quite difficult to find and shoot compelling images of landscapes or cityscapes/architecture. So what is up?  I’ve never considered myself to be a…… Continue reading Minimalist Kick: Cyanotype on White

Day 123 – Binary

Day 123 - Binary

“There are 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those who don’t.” — Unknown I think the message says it all!  😉 Day 123 of 365.

Day 105 – Post It Note

Day 105 - Post It Note

Yeah, I had a lot of trouble finding something to shoot today.  So I thought, why not capture that?  I pinned a Post-It Note on my office bulletin board and shot it with my 50mm at f2.2 and 1/50 second exposure.  Then a simple crop,  black and white conversion, and spot & dust removal in Photoshop and…… Continue reading Day 105 – Post It Note
