The public pay phone. They used to be everywhere – at every gas station, market, bar, many street corners, and rest stops along the highway. Now, in the cell phone age, when I see one of these, I usually do a double take. It’s certainly a rare site and brings back a lot of memories from my childhood. I had to stop at each phone booth and check the coin return for change. Every once in a while, I’d find a dime or sometimes even a quarter! And full disclosure, I still check the coin return for change. Not as many pay phones now and sadly, not as much change in the coin return.
This particular phone is on the East Side of Milwaukee near Maryland and Farwell.
