National Camera Day

Today is National Camera Day – a day we commemorate the photograph, the camera, and their inventions.  While I couldn’t find any history on the origin of the “holiday”,  Nicephore Niépce is credited with creating the first successful photograph in 1826/1827 on or about this time of year.  So perhaps that is why it is today.  Either way, I feel I’m obligated to do something to celebrate.

Since I’ve already taken quite a few shots of my old cameras for this project,  I went back through my images to find something different yet appropriate.  Taken in the Third Ward in Milwaukee in 2013 and reprocessed today, this is a reflection of me in an antique storefront window full of vintage camera gear.  Talk about kid in a candy store.

Happy National Camera Day!

Day 273 of my 365 photo a day project.

Emotion. Mood. Feelings. This is what I capture through my photographs. Whether it is landscapes, architectural elements, still life, or macros - it is a very personal journey as my own fears, triumphs, beliefs, and shortcomings are exposed with each photo. In the end, it is all about telling compelling stories.
