Three Seed Pods

These three seed pods are part of a collection of found objects my wife keeps in a little bowl in our bedroom.  While I don’t really know where she found them, after an internet search, I believe they are from a London Plane tree, which is a hybrid of the Oriental Plane and American Sycamore trees.  Of course, that matters not when it comes to this image – I just thought they were cool and would make a great photograph.

For the image, I envisioned overall warm tones so I needed to find a suitable background on which to shoot.  How about the beige couch in the living room?  Perfect!  The soft light was provided by the IKEA paper floor lamp next to the sofa with the ambient light courtesy of west facing windows in the room.  Who needs a studio anyway?  😉

In Photoshop, I added some light effects via Topaz Texture Effects and glow effects via On1 Photo 10.

Day 205 of my 365 photo a day project.

Emotion. Mood. Feelings. This is what I capture through my photographs. Whether it is landscapes, architectural elements, still life, or macros - it is a very personal journey as my own fears, triumphs, beliefs, and shortcomings are exposed with each photo. In the end, it is all about telling compelling stories.
