Paper Spiral

This shot of a small spiral piece of paper was inspired, in part, by an incident in our home this morning.  I’ll get to that in a moment.  For the image, I wanted to create something white on white with only light and the corresponding shadows along with texture defining the subject.  Shot macro with my 105mm lens and a single extension tube attached, a light placed low to the right, and one bounced off the ceiling did the trick.

Now for why I chose the paper swirl.  This morning we found out, or more accurately, my two year old son found out, what happens when you unroll (or unspiral) an entire roll of toilet paper into the toilet and then flush said toilet.  Let’s just say there was a whole lot of splashing and sloshing going on.  Good times.  And really, despite the wet floor, it was good times.

Day 175 of my 365 photo a day project.

Emotion. Mood. Feelings. This is what I capture through my photographs. Whether it is landscapes, architectural elements, still life, or macros - it is a very personal journey as my own fears, triumphs, beliefs, and shortcomings are exposed with each photo. In the end, it is all about telling compelling stories.
