The Dark Figure

Dark Figure
Dark Figure

A dark figure stands in a doorway peering into an empty room.   Who is he?  Why is he there?  What does he see?  What is he thinking?  These are all questions I ask myself when I am creating my images.  What is the subject and what do I want it to say to me and, ultimately, to you the viewer?  Of course, the question asked will depend on the nature of the subject, but the general approach is the same.

Sometimes, as in the case of my self-portraits, I’m looking inward, exploring emotions and mood.  Sometimes the feelings are real and sometimes they are created for the image – in other words, I’m acting.   I’m not the tortured soul some of these images portray!  However, to make images that tell a strong story and create a reaction,  I frequently will delve into some heavy emotions and thoughts.   It’s all part of creating, part of being an artist.  So expect to see more dark moody images in the future. But as spring and summer approaches, expect to see a lot of bright and happy images too!

Emotion. Mood. Feelings. This is what I capture through my photographs. Whether it is landscapes, architectural elements, still life, or macros - it is a very personal journey as my own fears, triumphs, beliefs, and shortcomings are exposed with each photo. In the end, it is all about telling compelling stories.
