Blue Star on White

“In the dark blue sky you keep,
And often through my curtains peep,
For you never shut your eye
‘Till the sun is in the sky.

As your bright and tiny spark
Lights the traveller in the dark,
Though I know not what you are,
Twinkle, twinkle, little star.
–from “The Star” by Jane Taylor

I created this image by cutting an “X” in a white sheet of paper with an X-Acto knife and peeling back the edges to reveal the blue paper behind.  I wanted to create something with depth and visual interest in a very simple way.  It was shot on my copy stand with the light on the left set low to create the shadows and the one on the right bounced off of the wall for softer overall fill.  Minimal processing in Photoshop.

Day 165 of my 365 photo a day project.

Emotion. Mood. Feelings. This is what I capture through my photographs. Whether it is landscapes, architectural elements, still life, or macros - it is a very personal journey as my own fears, triumphs, beliefs, and shortcomings are exposed with each photo. In the end, it is all about telling compelling stories.
