East Side Police Call Boxes

Hearkening back to the turn of the 20th century, these vintage police and fire emergency call boxes still stand all over the East Side neighborhood in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Once a vital communication link between the policemen on the street and dispatchers, they are now used mostly as junction boxes for streetlights and such.  And they are slowly disappearing.  Rust, car accidents, vandalism are taking a toll on these old boxes.

I live in this neighborhood and I walk by many of the call boxes everyday.  So today, I decided to try to capture a few of them.  Perhaps this will lead to a new photo a day project – the East Side Milwaukee Call Box of the day?  Maybe.  But I’ve got more than a few days left in my current project.  So stay tuned!

Day 160 of my 365 photo a day project.  OK, it is actually photos of the day.  Bonus pictures!

Emotion. Mood. Feelings. This is what I capture through my photographs. Whether it is landscapes, architectural elements, still life, or macros - it is a very personal journey as my own fears, triumphs, beliefs, and shortcomings are exposed with each photo. In the end, it is all about telling compelling stories.
