Hear See Speak

Here is my take on the old proverb,  ” Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil.”   There are many interpretations of what it actually means, both positive and negative.   And what my thoughts are on the phrase is irrelevant.  What matters is what you think.

Hear, See, Speak
Hear, See, Speak

Day 143 of my 365 photo-a-day project.

To create this image, I shot 4 frames – hands over mouth, hands over eyes, hands over ears, and a blank background.    I was careful the way I held my arms and placed my hands as to make the compositing and masking easier in Photoshop(PS).  I combined the shots into layers in PS and tried to align them as best as possible, using my big nose as the reference point.  Topaz ReMask was used to create the masks of my hands and arms.  (If you don’t have ReMask and you need to create masks / alpha channels, you REALLY should get it!).

After I was happy with the comp, I added the background texture and then did a lot – I mean a TON – of color and tone adjustments.  I just couldn’t get the look the way I wanted, so I just kept tweaking until I got it.  Once I was satisfied (more like tired and said it was time to move on), I added a bit of lens flare in the upper right, did a bit of mask edge clean up, final curves, color, and contrast adjustment and saved the file.

Here are a few frames to show the progress start to finish:

Emotion. Mood. Feelings. This is what I capture through my photographs. Whether it is landscapes, architectural elements, still life, or macros - it is a very personal journey as my own fears, triumphs, beliefs, and shortcomings are exposed with each photo. In the end, it is all about telling compelling stories.
