Water Flowing

Water Flowing

The water is flowing fast in the Milwaukee River these days.  This shot was taken under the Locust Street bridge on the East Side of Milwaukee.  Taken at midday, I used a 10-stop ND filter to slow down the water and create the smooth, silk-like motion.

For some reason, while I was shooting,  the chorus of the Talking Heads song “Once in a Lifetime” was running through my head:

“Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by, water flowing underground
Into the blue again after the money’s gone
Once in a lifetime, water flowing underground”

Does it have any relevance to the shot (outside of flowing water)?  Not really.  But I thought I’d share a little of what goes on in my head sometimes when I shoot.  It doesn’t always make sense.  But it is who I am!

Day 363 of my 365 photo a day project.  (2 Images left!!)

Emotion. Mood. Feelings. This is what I capture through my photographs. Whether it is landscapes, architectural elements, still life, or macros - it is a very personal journey as my own fears, triumphs, beliefs, and shortcomings are exposed with each photo. In the end, it is all about telling compelling stories.
