Miracle of a Single Flower

“If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly, our whole life would change.”
–Unknown, possibly Buddha

For the day after the noise, pomp and circumstance, explosions, pops, bangs, and excitement that is the 4th of July, I wanted to create something simple, beautiful and understated.  What better way than with a single bouquet of tiny wild flowers.  I believe these are Spotted Joe-Pye weed flowers, but I am not an expert on that.  (Anyone?)  I plucked this little cluster of pink and white flowers right outside our front door.

Day 279 of my 365 photo a day project.

Even though the flowers are colorful, for this image, I felt black and white was the way to go.  I shot them on a white canvas board and then added the horizontal lines to create some side to side movement and to frame the subject vertically.  The wide crop also adds a sense of space and openness.

This image and most of the others from this project are available as prints and digital downloads.  You can also check out the rest of my portfolio here.  And don’t forget to subscribe to the blog so you don’t miss anything!

Emotion. Mood. Feelings. This is what I capture through my photographs. Whether it is landscapes, architectural elements, still life, or macros - it is a very personal journey as my own fears, triumphs, beliefs, and shortcomings are exposed with each photo. In the end, it is all about telling compelling stories.
