The Keystone Capri K28 8mm Camera

The Keystone Capri K28 8mm camera.  Oh, what wonderful things it has seen – riding a Harley in the 1950s, time with the grandparents, parents, and kids, skiing in Colorado, boat racing in Texas, the arrival of a President in Houston,  Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, relaxing times with family at the pool or along the San Jacinto river, and much much more.

My Dad graciously sent me this camera recently.   Starting from the mid-1950s through around 1970, he put lots and lots of 8mm film through this guy.   I love the dual lens design, the chrome accents, and the sturdy build.  They certainly don’t make ’em like they used to!  (Do they even make 8mm film cameras anymore?)

While more suited for shooting images, I felt the Keystone needed to be the subject for a change.  This is a simple setup with two pieces of cardboard as the background, a desk lamp with a bit of aluminum foil to focus the light as a key light,  a secondary fluorescent from the right for some fill light, and a little ambient light from the room.  There was quite a bit of color, contrast, levels, and exposure adjustments in Photoshop.  See below for a ‘before’ image.

Day 250 of my 365 photo a day project.

Emotion. Mood. Feelings. This is what I capture through my photographs. Whether it is landscapes, architectural elements, still life, or macros - it is a very personal journey as my own fears, triumphs, beliefs, and shortcomings are exposed with each photo. In the end, it is all about telling compelling stories.
