Twelve Squares

Twelve Squares

Twelve squares in three rows of four across – close up detail of a worn and rusty metal drain cover in Riverside Park, on the East Side of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  I was out playing with my son in the park when I spotted these cool geometric shapes on this steel sewer grate.

The harsh shadows from the afternoon sun really enhanced the worn, pitted texture.  This is a prime example of why you should always have a camera with you when you are out – you never know what you will find!  When a subject presents itself to you and says “shoot me now!”, you had better be ready to oblige.  And, in this particular case, my camera was my Droid Turbo cell phone.  (Whatever works, right??)

And now for the big question:  are the squares raised or sunken?  What do you think?

Emotion. Mood. Feelings. This is what I capture through my photographs. Whether it is landscapes, architectural elements, still life, or macros - it is a very personal journey as my own fears, triumphs, beliefs, and shortcomings are exposed with each photo. In the end, it is all about telling compelling stories.
