“To really ask is to open the door to the whirlwind. The answer may annihilate the question and the questioner.”
–Anne Rice

A self-portrait combining my passion for photography and my “day job” of  3D /2D animation and motion graphics.   I shot a quick and simple head shot with my 50mm lens set pretty much wide open to really blur the background.  Using that image to drive the color and emission rate,  several versions of 3D particles moving from left to right were created and rendered in Autodesk Softimage.

In Photoshop, using layer masks, I blended the multiple particle renders to make a gradual transition from the portrait to the full 3D files.   Of course, there was the usual contrast, levels, curves, and color-correction and then several passes through Topaz Impression to take away some the  “digital edge” of the 3D files.  All in all,  I’m quite happy with the outcome.

Day 161 of my 365 photo a day project.

Emotion. Mood. Feelings. This is what I capture through my photographs. Whether it is landscapes, architectural elements, still life, or macros - it is a very personal journey as my own fears, triumphs, beliefs, and shortcomings are exposed with each photo. In the end, it is all about telling compelling stories.
