Twisted

Twisted
Twisted

“Everything is nothing with a twist.”
–Kurt Vonnegut

Nothing.  I walked for a couple of hours, camera in hand, and shot nothing worth processing  – much less sharing with the world.  Blah.  Time to go home.  Then on the way back, along the side of the street, I saw this twisty little vine holding on tight to a twisted metal guide wire.  And it was the perfect shot for today.  Why?  To me, it embodies one thing every artist needs to know.

When you feel you’ve lost your way creatively, nothing works, the lightbulb is off, the fount has run dry (insert more clichés here), keep working!  Keep doing what you do, but try to look at things with a different perspective.  Try new techniques.  Experiment.  Take a break and come back with fresh eyes.  Close your eyes.  Open your eyes.  Borrow someone else’s eyes.  Wear different shoes.  With no socks.  Stand on your head.  Stand on one foot.  But keep at it.  With a twist, you can make something out of nothing.

Day 38 of my 365 photo a day project.

When you feel you’ve lost your way creatively, keep at it. With a twist, you can make something out of nothing.

Emotion. Mood. Feelings. This is what I capture through my photographs. Whether it is landscapes, architectural elements, still life, or macros - it is a very personal journey as my own fears, triumphs, beliefs, and shortcomings are exposed with each photo. In the end, it is all about telling compelling stories.
